Mission

To assure a comprehensive level of services, training, knowledge and leadership through certification for the administration of graduate medical education programs for physicians-in-training.

Vision

The National Board for Certification of Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education Programs has been created to establish standards for the profession, to acknowledge the expertise needed to successfully manage graduate medical education programs, and to recognize those training program administrators who have achieved competence in all fields related to their profession.

Objectives

  • Strive to include one representative from each nationally organized graduate medical education training administrators' association as members of a working Board of Directors.
  • Strive to include representation for those training programs in which there are no nationally organized associations in the membership of the working Board of Directors.
  • Adopt and uphold national educational standards for graduate medical education administration.
  • Assess the curriculum established by its member training programs for adherence to the national educational standards.
  • Promote the use of effective measurement tools to assess the competency of graduate medical education training administrators.
  • Recognize individuals who demonstrate their adherence to the educational standards.
  • Share knowledge, foster educational opportunities and encourage personal and professional growth through continued advancements in the profession.
  • Promote ethical principles and professional behavior in support of graduate medical education training programs for physicians-in-training.
  • Encourage the development of competencies for the administrators of all graduate medical education training programs.
  • Maintain objectivity and independence while continuing its inter-organizational relationships.
  • Encourage innovation and improvement in training administrators.
  • Promote continuing development by providing a mechanism to recognize individuals who continue to demonstrate their qualifications beyond the initial recognition.
