Maintenance of Certification Requirement Guidelines

Recertification Information - for Certificates Issued Prior to January 1, 2008

To maintain your certification, you will need to recertify; your support documentation must include:

  1. Documented attendance of least one national meeting during the last 3 years whose focus is graduate medical education
  2. Documented participation in at least 1 committee on the institutional or departmental level per year
  3. Documentation regarding two other personal professional development activities in the last 3 years. Approved activities include oral and poster presentations, publications, committee leadership on national level, continuing education courses (e.g. online professional modules such as SoftSkills or institutional based life learning courses); and higher education courses.
  4. Successful completion of your clinical specialty's maintenance of certification tool.

¨ Continuing education courses (e.g. online professional modules such as SoftSkills, or institutional based life learning courses); and

Higher education courses

Maintenance of Certification Requirement Guidelines

Recertification Information - for Certificates Issued On or After January 1, 2008

Certification is valid for five years including the year of certification. All TAGME time-limited certificates, regardless of their exact dates of issuance, are considered to expire five years later on December 31. To keep your certification current, you will need to recertify every five years. Your application for maintenance of certification must include:

  1. Documented attendance for at least two national meetings during the next 5 years whose focus is graduate medical education
  2. Documented participation in at least 1 committee on the institutional or departmental level per year
  3. Documentation regarding three other personal professional development activities in 5 years. Approved activities include oral and poster presentations, publications, committee leadership on a national level, continuing education courses (e.g. online professional modules such as SoftSkills or institutional based life learning courses); and higher education courses.
  4. Successful completion of your clinical specialty's Maintenance of Certification Tool.
